Happy International Marconi Day!

For radio enthusiasts the world over, the inventor of radio, Guglielmo Marconi is a heroic figure. An electrical engineer by training and practice, Marconi was a pioneer of long-distance radio transmission and developed a radio telegraph system. For his work he shared the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun.

Every year on April 25th, the Cornish Radio Amateur Club puts on a 24-hour event called International Marconi Day. On this day, they invite radio fans from around the world to “make contact with Historic Marconi Sites using communication techniques similar to those used by Marconi himself.” In order to be registered as an official station, participants travel to and broadcast from sites that Marconi lived in, operated from, or set up experimental stations in.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event has been canceled. But we still wanted to celebrate International Marconi Day with you, our fellow voice communications enthusiasts, and to give a big shout out to the Cornish Radio Amateur Club for their dedication to the amateur radio community and to their celebration of the life of one of the world’s most impactful inventor’s.
